Discover how with Pillar content planning and implementation you can dominate your industry. And don't forget to compliment your content with some quality links. :)
As with every new client that I get to talk with, I ask them if they know what search terms they would like me to target and to have pages ranking on them. Usually, most of them don't know what is keyword and how we will target it, etc. This is fine by the way, that is exactly why I am conducting a consultation at first.
After the discovery call, I start researching all the competitors. It can be either from SERP by manually typing keywords that are relevant for my client or placing well-known competitors to Semrush and Ahrefs. By manually researching in Google search I can mark which pages of which competitors are ranking for what keyword, and from Semrush and Ahrefs I can see what pages are ranking for what keywords in bulk. So after mapping everything I can start keyword researching. It's important to note here that I always strive to target the most relevant long-tail keywords at first, in order to drive some traffic. These types of keywords are easier to rank for and get some traffic in the beginning.
After mapping the keywords desired by me and the client I started to create a pillar content strategy. Basically you have a main keyword that is short with a lot of competitors for one topic, and you start to create a long-tail keyword and content around that main one. It should look like a pillar ot pyramid when you try to visualize it. After creating 5 articles you start to interlink them with proper internal links and anchors, this way the search engine will better know how are pages semantically connected.
Your content strategy should look something like this in the beginning:
As you can see on the screenshot I've created 3 main topics (the ones in red) and a collection of subtopics that links to them. If your subtopics get traffic it can be distributed to the main topics, consequently boosting your main topic pages in the SERPs.
Usually, after some content is already published on the website it's time to start attracting direct traffic or backlinks. As usual, I started to research local media, and that's exactly what I did here. I've made contact with 5 media near the local business which gladly wrote about MyZenLife in their news article, consequently attracting traffic to our website. Thus we've started to see a spike in traffic in most of our newly created pages.
For the Backlink directories, I used some of these in the screenshot:
As a conclusion of my services, I will attach a screenshot of the search console for you guys to see how everything influenced the search results for MyZenLife.
